It ain’t beautiful but it’s economical : The Danish language

Danish is not a beautiful language. But it’s economical. Why invent a new word when two old ones are perfectly adequate? For example the vacuum cleaner = dust sucker, cremation= body burning, aeroplane= flying machine, nipple= breast wart, and a glove is directly translated into ‘a foot in boots’.

Words are ALWAYS recycled when possible…’hej’ means hello and then you repeat the word twice – ‘hej hej’ – and it means goodbye. Continue reading
